Salesforce AIforce, unveiled at the Dreamforce conference on 15 September 2026, is a new layer that lets people and AI agents use Salesforce data, workflows and permissions from inside other tools, starting with Anthropic's Claude, Slack and Salesforce's own Lightning interface. Instead of opening the CRM and clicking through screens, a salesperson can ask a question or update a record from the assistant they already have open. For a small or medium business that runs on Salesforce, the practical message is that the quality of your CRM data and the tidiness of your permissions now matter more, because far more people and agents will be able to act on them.
What Salesforce announced
In Salesforce's AIforce announcement, the company describes AIforce as "a live interface layer" that brings the data, workflows, business logic, permissions, security and governance already inside Salesforce to any AI interface. It launches with three parts, and Salesforce says more will be announced soon.
| Part | What it does | Status given by Salesforce |
|---|---|---|
| Claudeforce | Puts Salesforce inside Claude through a prebuilt connector (Salesforce calls it an MCP server), with 37 prebuilt sales skills covering work from prospecting to pipeline hygiene. A separate plug-in for Claude Code targets developers. | Salesforce in Claude is available to all customers in beta |
| Slackforce | Brings Salesforce context into Slack: shared live views called Slackforce Surfaces, a Slackbot assistant that can reason across Slack conversations and Salesforce data, Slack CRM for creating accounts, logging call notes and updating records from Slack, and Slack Code for team coding sessions with an agent. | Announced; the release does not give availability dates |
| Agentforce Coworker | An AI teammate inside the Lightning interface that reasons across accounts, activity and history, and can call the Agentforce agents a customer has already deployed. | Available to Salesforce customers now; Salesforce says it can be activated without a migration |
Salesforce says analytics with Tableau and skills for service, marketing, commerce and industries will be added to Salesforce in Claude in the near future.
The governance claims
Salesforce makes four specific statements about how AIforce handles access and data. They are worth quoting to your Salesforce contact and asking how each applies to your edition and region.
- Existing permissions apply. Every request runs on existing permissions and business rules, so an agent sees only what the person asking can see.
- Actions go through Salesforce. Every action routes back through Salesforce rather than around it.
- Zero Data Retention. In Salesforce's words, "Business data is used to answer the question at hand and is not retained by the model provider."
- No new setup model. Salesforce says there is no new permissions model, no migration and no custom integration work, and that administrators connect once.
The release also carries a standard caution: pricing and packaging are subject to change, and availability may vary by region and is governed by customer agreements.
How it connects to the new editions
Earlier in the month, on 3 September, Salesforce announced new Core, Advanced and Max editions for its sales, service and industry products. Every tier of those editions includes Agentforce capabilities such as Agentforce Coworker, along with Slack and an allocation of Flex Credits, which are Salesforce's consumption credits for agent work. Salesforce also said existing customer pricing on legacy editions remains unchanged. Neither announcement mentions Salesforce's small business suites, so if you are on one of those, ask directly what applies to you.
What it means for an Australian SME
Cost
There are two kinds of cost to separate. The first is the licence: which edition you are on, and whether Coworker, Slack and the Claude connection are included in it. The second is consumption. Agent work in the new editions draws on Flex Credits, and a team that starts asking an assistant to research every account will use them faster than a team that asks occasionally. Before a wide rollout, find out how many credits your edition includes, what counts as a billable action, and what happens when the allocation runs out. If you also plan to use Salesforce in Claude, check which Claude plan it needs, because Claude is a separate product from a separate company.
Privacy and data handling
A CRM is a store of personal information: names, phone numbers, emails, notes from calls and sometimes much more. Sending questions about that data to an AI model is something your customers may reasonably expect to be told about. The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner's guidance on commercially available AI products says privacy obligations apply to personal information put into an AI system and to output that contains personal information, and that businesses should update their privacy policies with clear information about their use of AI. Questions to put to Salesforce or your implementation partner:
- Does Zero Data Retention apply to every model and every feature we would use, including beta features?
- Where is our data processed when a request is answered, and is that covered by our current agreement?
- What is logged about each agent action, who can see the log, and how long is it kept?
- Can we switch a feature on for one team first, and can we switch it off again cleanly?
Permissions become the main control
Salesforce's line that every agent "sees only what the person asking can see" is reassuring only if users can see the right things. Many small businesses set up CRM access once, in a hurry, and never revisit it. A junior staff member with access to every account could always have opened every record one at a time. With an assistant, the same person can ask for a summary of all of them in a sentence. Review profiles, roles and sharing rules before you switch on Coworker or connect Claude, and remove access people no longer need. This is ordinary access control and security hygiene, and it is the preparation that pays off most.
Staff training
Staff need to know three things: what the assistant is allowed to change, that they are still accountable for a record they asked an agent to update, and how to check an answer against the underlying records. Slack CRM in particular makes it easy to create an account or log notes with a quick prompt, which is convenient and also an easy way to create duplicates. Agree on naming and data entry rules first.
Where it fits in everyday operations
The natural early uses are the tasks salespeople skip because they are tedious: logging call notes, updating the next step on an opportunity, preparing for a client meeting by pulling recent cases and emails together, and spotting accounts that have gone quiet. It works well only when the CRM is connected to the systems around it, such as accounting, email and the website enquiry form, so the assistant is reasoning over complete information. That connection work is what CRM and business systems integration covers.
What to do now
- Confirm what you have. Ask your Salesforce account contact which AIforce features are available for your edition in Australia, and what is included or charged by consumption.
- Audit access. Review who can view, edit and export records, and close accounts for people who have left.
- Clean the data. Merge duplicate accounts and contacts, and fix required fields, before an assistant starts summarising them.
- Start with one team. Turn on Coworker for a small group, with agreed tasks and a named person collecting problems.
- Treat beta as beta. Keep Salesforce in Claude away from sensitive records while it is in beta, and read the beta terms.
- Update your privacy policy and staff guidance. Say plainly how AI is used with customer information.
- Watch consumption. Check credit usage after the pilot, before you widen access.

Frequently asked questions
What is Salesforce AIforce?
AIforce is what Salesforce calls a live interface layer. It makes the data, workflows, business logic and permissions in Salesforce available inside AI tools, launching with Claudeforce for Claude, Slackforce for Slack and Agentforce Coworker inside Salesforce's Lightning interface.
Is Agentforce Coworker available now?
Salesforce says Agentforce Coworker is instantly available to Salesforce customers and can be activated without a migration or a new permissions model. Availability may vary by region and agreement, so confirm it for your own organisation.
Does the AI model provider keep our CRM data?
Salesforce states that under Zero Data Retention, business data is used to answer the question at hand and is not retained by the model provider. Ask Salesforce to confirm that this covers each feature and model you intend to use.
Do small businesses need a new Salesforce edition to use it?
The announcements do not say. Salesforce's new Core, Advanced and Max editions include Agentforce Coworker in every tier, but the releases do not mention the small business suites, so ask your account contact what applies.
What should we fix before turning it on?
Review who has access to what, clean up duplicate and incomplete records, and agree which tasks staff may hand to an agent. An assistant that respects your permissions is only as safe as those permissions.
