Technology solutions for retail and ecommerce businesses

Online stores, point of sale, stock, shipping and accounts that agree with each other, for shops, online retailers and wholesalers selling online.

Who this is for

We provide technology solutions for retail and ecommerce businesses of every shape: a homewares shop with one counter and an online store, a bike shop with a workshop out the back, a garden nursery, a skincare brand that sells only online, and a wholesaler of cafe supplies that wants trade customers to order through a login instead of by phone.

The same problem turns up in each. Stock, orders, customers and money live in separate systems that do not agree. The till says one thing, the website another and the spreadsheet a third. Staff re-key orders, customers buy items that sold out yesterday, and the bookkeeper loses time matching payment payouts to sales.

We build and connect the pieces: the online store, the point of sale, stock, shipping and accounting. We have built a point-of-sale and stock system and an online marketplace ourselves, and the project types are listed on our work page.

Common technology challenges in retail

  • Stock counts that differ between the shop floor, the website and marketplaces, so items oversell
  • Orders re-typed from the online store into accounting, shipping labels and customer emails
  • Payouts from several payment providers that are slow to reconcile against sales
  • Product details, prices and photos maintained separately in each sales channel
  • A slow or dated website that is awkward on a phone and hard for staff to update
  • Wholesale customers ordering by phone and email because there is no trade login showing their prices
  • Little visibility of which products, channels and customers actually make money

How we help retailers and online sellers

Websites and online stores

Shopify stores, or a custom Next.js storefront where you need more control, with fast product pages, clear total prices and a catalogue your staff can update themselves.

Business systems and integrations

Online orders, point of sale, stock, shipping and Xero or MYOB kept in step, so a sale is recorded once and stock levels match everywhere you sell.

Custom software

Wholesale ordering portals with customer-specific prices, purchasing and stock tools, or a point-of-sale system shaped to your shop when packaged products do not fit.

Mobile apps

A loyalty or ordering app for regular customers, or a staff app for stocktakes, receiving and click-and-collect, built once for iPhone and Android with Flutter.

Data and dashboards

Sales, margin, stock on hand and slow-moving lines by product, channel and store, refreshed automatically from your sales and accounting systems.

Cyber security

Staff logins, administrator access to your store, customer data and backups reviewed and tightened, with multi-factor authentication on the accounts that matter.

A typical retail or ecommerce project

StageWhat happens
1. Discovery callA free conversation about what you sell, where you sell it, which systems hold stock and orders now, and when your peak periods fall.
2. Plan and quoteA written plan and a fixed or staged quote agreed before work starts, with launch dates set away from your busy trading periods.
3. Build and testBuilt in stages with regular demos on a test store. We place test orders end to end: payment, stock change, shipping label, customer email and the entry in your accounts.
4. Launch and trainProducts, customers and order history are migrated, old web addresses are redirected to the new pages, and staff are trained on orders, returns and updating the catalogue.
5. Ongoing supportMonitoring, updates and help, with changes made ahead of each sale period and checks that orders and stock are still passing correctly between systems.

Commonly integrated systems

We connect to the systems retailers already run. These are common examples, and we are independent of their vendors. What can be connected depends on each product's API, its documented way for programs to exchange data.

  • Shopify and WooCommerce for online stores
  • Square and Lightspeed for point of sale
  • Stripe, PayPal and Tyro for online and in-store payments
  • Xero and MYOB for accounting
  • Australia Post and courier services for shipping labels and tracking
  • Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace for staff email and documents

Australian rules that shape an online store

Selling online. The ACCC says that when a consumer shops online, all the usual consumer rights apply, and that an overseas business providing goods or services directly to consumers in Australia must follow the Australian Consumer Law.

Prices. On price displays, the ACCC says businesses must display the total price of a product or service as a single figure, including any taxes, duties and unavoidable or pre-selected extra fees. If the price at the checkout does not match the displayed price, the business must sell the product for the lowest price or stop selling the item until the incorrect price is corrected. We build product pages, carts and checkouts with those rules in mind.

Card surcharges. The ACCC states that from 1 October 2026 businesses can no longer charge a surcharge for payments made using Visa, Mastercard, American Express or eftpos credit, debit or prepaid cards. If your online checkout or point of sale still adds a card fee, the setting needs to change.

Privacy and records. The OAIC says most small businesses are not covered by the Privacy Act 1988, but some are, including any business that is trading in personal information. A small business is one with an annual turnover of $3 million or less. The ATO says you need to keep most records for 5 years and that the relevant information must not be changed, for example by using electronic sales suppression tools.

Questions from retailers and online sellers

Should we use Shopify or have a custom online store built?

For many retailers an established platform such as Shopify or WooCommerce is the sensible start, and we set it up and connect it to your other systems. A custom store earns its place when you need unusual pricing, a product configurator, a wholesale portal or tight links to your own systems. We build both and will tell you which fits.

Can you connect our online store to the till and to Xero or MYOB?

Usually, yes. We check what each product allows through its API or an existing connector, then decide which system is the master record for stock and prices. Orders, payments and stock changes then pass between them without retyping. See business systems and integrations.

Will we lose our search rankings if we rebuild the site?

A rebuild changes addresses and page content, so rankings can move. We reduce the risk by redirecting every old address to its new page, carrying over titles and product content, and checking the site in search tools after launch. We do not promise positions.

We sell wholesale as well as retail. Can one system handle both?

Yes. A common approach is a trade login that shows each customer their own prices and terms, feeding the same stock and accounts as the retail store. We build these as custom software or on your store platform. Importers may also want our import and export page.

Who owns the store and the code when the project ends?

You do. Platform, domain and payment accounts are opened in your name, and any code and documentation we write is yours.
